Software Engineer Resignation Letter Sample

Leaving a software engineering job requires you to provide ample time to the employer so that a replacement can be arranged. The formal way of leaving a software engineering position is to write a resignation letter that will provide information of why and when you would like to be relieved of your duties.

Mostly, resignation letters are positive documents that do not possess any negativity in them (even if you are leaving because you had been unhappy in your position). Some very stark resignation letters though may outline the real reason behind your leaving (especially if you are resigning following an altercation) but these are few.

A resignation letter will simply contain the reason for leaving, a notice period and some niceties about the time an individual has spent in the organization. The following resignation letter sample can be used as an example of how a software engineer will be expected to write his resignation.

Dear Ms. Hernandez:

It is with profound regret that I decided to resign from my position as Software Engineer for Palantir Technologies. I have already initiated the resignation procedure through the company resignation system; my last working day will be July 1.

Working at Palantir Technologies has not only been good for my career but has provided me with ample opportunities of self education. When I joined as an intern seven years ago, I knew little of the technological world and this company has taught me all that I know. My supervisor, Mr. Phillip Hamilton has been a constant source of encouragement throughout and I am extremely thankful to him and my coworkers from whom I have learnt so much.

I intend to finish my current programming project Boomer which was entrusted to me last week before I leave. Other concurrent project integrations and customizations, I will delegate to whoever you would like me hand over my work to. Of course, during my notice period, I will train to anyone whom you choose to hire in my place.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the tremendous opportunities of learning that you provided to me at Palantir Technologies. Please let me know if there is any input you need from me to ensure a smooth transition.

Sincerely,

Derek John
